Living in the Moment With a Buddha Board

Are you enjoying the summer’s moments? My two-week tech break wasn’t totally successful but, I did cut way back. And, in the process, I found more opportunities to be present with my kids, my husband, and my friends. To just breathe. Listen. Be.

Lately, I’ve been leaving my phone at home, turning off my emails during the day, spending the first moments of the morning with a cup of coffee, and centering my thinking about the day. My goal is to be mindful, present (not distracted) in the day’s moments.

I wonder about you. Do you find that mindfulness is an intention, too?

“Stillness, insight, and wisdom arise only when we can settle into being complete in this moment, without having to seek or hold on to or reject anything.”
Jon Kabat-Zinn

If you and your kids want to practice mindfulness, you might like the Buddha Board. The Buddha Board is a board you paint with water and a thick calligraphy paintbrush. Because it’s water, the image is temporary.

It might take some time to get used to — because you can’t cling to it, you can’t keep your art, it’s a moment of time and then it’s gone. Don’t freak out – try it. See what it brings up for you.

You can also try it on the Buddha Board website.

What happens to you when you or your kids watch the art fade? How does it feel?

“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.”
Thich Nhat Hanh

“Be present in all things and thankful for all things.”
Maya Angelou

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.”
Mother Teresa

Wishing you the peace that comes from savoring each moment.

  1. My 12 year old has a Buddha board and loves it. It’s also perfect for practicing Chinese characters. She takes Chinese at her middle school.

My other two kids are too hyper for it.

  2. I love this idea here and I hope my kids would be interested with this too.. Anyway, thanks a lot for the great post shared here..
