Easter Activities with The Artful Parent

Jean Van’t Hul’s second book, The Artful Year: Celebrating the Seasons and Holidays with Crafts and Recipes–Over 175 Family- Friendly Activities, arrived in my mailbox a few weeks ago. It’s an amazing resource with art activities, crafts, recipes, and more to help make each season special. We decided to give some of the Easter activities a go.

Easter Activities with The Artful Parent

We decided an Easter Egg Tree would be our goal. To do that, we needed to make hollow eggs. What a blast that was!

Here’s JJ blowing out the eggs. This was totally awesome — particularly to those of us who think gross things are cool. 🙂 (Egg’s pooping! I know, we are really mature.)

After we made the hollow eggs, we selected one of many decorating ideas. We picked Stained-Glass Easter Eggs. This process was using sharpies to outline a pattern then painting with a glue and paint mixture.

The paint was very pretty! However, it was drippy and we had some troubles figuring out how to dry it without smearing the paint and marker.

We don’t have our Easter tree yet because all our trees are still covered in ice and snow. Soon I hope.

Next we picked an Easter cookie to make — Bird’s Nest Cookies. These are sugar cookies covered in flakes of coconut and filled with a small Easter candy after baking.
