It’s raining shoes here! I have so many excellent children’s books about shoes. So, here’s a book round-up of my favorite picture books about shoes.
Picture Books About Shoes
Shoes for Me! by Sue Fliess, illustrated by Mike Laughead captures the fun of selecting new shoes as Hippo tries to find the perfect pair – the first time she gets to pick out her own shoes.
A Flock of Shoes by Sarah Tsiang, illustrated by Qin Leng tells the story of Abby’s migrating shoes. After her sandals fly off and join a flock of sandals heading south, Abby learns to love her winter boots. And then one day, her boots hear the sound of a north bound train and jump on board . . . This is a fun picture book for any child that doesn’t want to part with a an outgrown item of clothing.
Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and James Dean is one of my all-time favorite picture books. Especially after I heard Litwin sing his catchy tune, “I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes . . . ” It will get stuck in your head — and you won’t mind one bit! It’s about going with the flow “’cause it’s all good.” One of our favorite picture books!
Shoes by Jerri James, illustrated by Norma Samuelson shows us a little girl that counts her feet and counts her shoes. She decides to send a brand new pair of shocks and shoes to someone who doesn’t have any shoes at all. Visit Club Gobedo, created to inspire selflessness, service and compassion in children, to donate shoes.
Jeremy wants Those Shoes (written by Maribeth Boeltz, illustrated by Norah Jones) – the black, high-cut sneakers with stripes. But, his grandma can’t afford to buy them. When Jeremy’s own shoes fall apart, he buys the high-top sneakers at a thrift store in a too-small size. Those Shoes raises the relatable issue of wanting to fit in and the difference between a want and a need.

Hi~ Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. 🙂 I’m glad I found your site. As a former full-time El Ed teacher, and now a long-term substitute I’m always looking for ideas. I, like you, am in LOVE with books and base much of my teaching around them. Your blog looks fun, interesting and full of important information. I will be back to visit soon! 🙂
Had to add one more book to your list. All the little girls I know love it.
**Shoe-La-La by Karen Beaumont**
We love shoes in our house too so I love that you compiled a go-to list of shoe books! I can’t remember the exact name, but we had one about red shoes that my kids liked. Thanks so much for sharing!
Pete the Cat is an excellent book for preschoolers. It is one of our favorites as well.
Those Shoes is such a great read aloud for older kids! They really relate to Jeremy, wanting to fit in, wanting things you can’t have. The ending is perfect – I won’t give it away!
Love the new look, Melissa.
