I do! This means we read narwhal books, write narwhal stories, and collect narwhal plush toys. (Her last birthday party was narwhal-themed!)
Based on her obsession, we’ve found the best narwhal books for kids that we think you’ll want to read, too. ENJOY!
8 Narwhal Books for Kids
Narwhal Unicorn of the Sea (book #1) by Ben Clanton
My daughter is the biggest fan of narwhals, so we LOVE this early reader graphic novel. But not just because it’s about a narwhal (which is super cool, obviously) but also because it is a funny and sweet story of friendship.
Super Narwhal and Jelly Jolt (book #2) by Ben Clanton
Narwhal and Jelly develop their inner superheroes after discovering their superpowers, which they use to help others and each other. Like the first book, this beginning reader graphic novel is all about friendship.
Wendell the Narwhal by Emily Dove
Wendell’s story is filled with ocean sounds and begs to be read aloud. Wendell struggles to find his place with the other talented musicians. Beautiful illustrations depict a lovely message of teamwork, inclusion, and finding your unique talent.
Probably a Narwhal by Shelley Moore Thomas, illustrated by Jenna Harney
When a little girl blames her messy room on a narwhal, the narwhal gets upset and tries to set her straight. Because no, narwhals are not pink or polka-dotted, or have wings, or are the size of elephants. Laugh-out-loud silliness.
Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima
Kelp notices that he is different than the other narwhals in his pod — he’s not a good swimmer and has a shorter tusk. Since no one else cares, he doesn’t either. Until a current carries him to an island where he sees land animals (Land Narwhals!) that look just like him. It turns out these are unicorns, and so is Kelp. Kelp loves the unicorns but misses his sea family. Fortunately, he finds a way to spend time with his land and sea families.
Narwhal (A Day in the Life: Polar Animals) by Katie Marsico
Learn more about these mysterious sea creatures in this glimpse of a typical day.
Narwhal The Arctic Unicorn by Justin Anderson, illustrated by Jo Weaver
The informational and narrative text follows an old narwhal and his pod as they journey north for the summer. They must find places to surface for breath that are safe from polar bears. When they arrive in the north, the females birth baby calves whom they need to keep safe from killer whales. The pod journies south when the seasons change again before they get trapped by the freezing ice.
